Periodontics

GUM & BONE TREATMENT

Periodontics is the branch of dentistry specialising in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of periodontal (gum and bone) disease. Periodontal diseases are bacterial infections that destroy the attachment fibres and supporting bone that hold the teeth in the mouth. If left untreated, these diseases can lead to tooth loss.

Aside from from routine scaling an polishing, a patient with more advanced periodontal disease may have root planning (deep scaling) or gum surgery to help stabilise their condition

Patients will need to be placed on a treatment programme, and upon completion put on a maintenance protocol for long term stability.
